I think it has something to do with this crazy thing called September starting to show up on my calendar (I mean, what?!), but lately I have been extra obsessed with quintessential summer-y things. I’ve been devouring peaches and tomatoes like I’ll never see another one again and just want to eat s’mores all day every day. My brain is all summer lovin’ all the time, ya know?

Cheesy Jalapeño Bacon Corn Cakes
Sweet or savory? It’s been the fundamental brunch dilemma since the beginning of brunching time. It’s a critical decision that can make or break your meal, and let’s be real—if you’re like me and take your brunch really, really seriously–sometimes your entire day.
Here’s the thing: in my opinion, I don’t think most brunch places really do us any favors here. In general, the brunch options are lots of really awesome-sounding sweet things and also lots of really delicious-sounding savory things, but then an utter laziness when it comes to those who want a little of both. Options are boring and unimaginative, “combo plates” that consist of 2 plain pancakes and 2 plain scrambled eggs with 2 plain links of bacon or sausage. Bo-ring! Why can no one offer me half of a sausage and breakfast potato scramble and half an order of banana walnut French toast? Apparently, sweet and savory creativity is too much to ask.
Huevos Rancheros Pizza
I’m not going to lie – I definitely do my best recipe brainstorming as I lay in bed at night, right when I’m about to fall asleep. Most of the time, nothing much comes out of it since I have an incredible ability to fall asleep within 30 seconds flat, but one night, my brain was really going, because I was thinking about something super important: how I could get more runny egg pizza in my life.
You know, normal things normal people think about.
Farro and Black Bean Burrito Bowls
Phew. I don’t know about you guys, but this weekend was a BIG eating weekend. And a big beer-drinking weekend. And a big happy-times-outside-not-too-productive weekend. It was totally awesome and exactly how a holiday weekend is supposed to be, but as always after a vacation or holiday, I am feeling greatly in need of a few days that don’t involve stuffing my face with enormous oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. We all need a few of those days every now and then, even those of us (ahem) who write food blogs about bacon. It’s all about the balance here.
