Helloooooo, giant tray of enormous scones that we consumed in less than 24 hours.
What can I say? This is my all-time fave scone recipe, and I’ve been craving it for, I dunno, MONTHS. I’ve had this recipe on my short list to share with you guys basically since the blog started, and I decided it’s finally time to right my scone-withholding wrongs. Because this is a weekend to celebrate!! Yesterday, my parents and I drove up to Santa Barbara and Malibu to finally (!!) look at wedding venues and guys, it was so fun! We found a place we absolutely loved, and spending a day looking for the perfect place to get married was basically the best day ever. My point is: wedding venue touring dream day deserves some celebration dark chocolate chip cream scones. And champagne!! But first, scones.
Let’s get down to business here. These dark chocolate chip cream scones scones are pure perfection. They are creamy and crumbly at the same time (due to my secret scone weapon of super-cold heavy cream); they are only the slightest bit sweet, and loaded up with some serious dark chocolate chunks for the perfect amount of decadence. They are a perfect breakfast or afternoon snack with coffee or tea, because they’re just so simple and so good. I want to take these scones out behind the middle school and get ’em pregnant. That’s how much I love these scones.
(Please tell me someone got that reference? No? I just seemed super weird? Ugh.)
Me making creepy comments about scones aside, you have to make these babies. In addition to being so freakin’ delicious, they literally come together in the time it takes your oven to preheat. NOT EXAGGERATING. I hate when recipes say this and then I think it will take 10 minutes and then I remember I need to dice all the veggies and oh-shit-I-spilled-the-milk and then my oven has been on for 45 minutes and I’m sweating everywhere. Not cool. These dark chocolate chip cream scones are genuinely a 10-minute, zero-anxiety-sweats, easy-peasy situation. Just add it to the reasons you need to make these pronto. Get on it!
- 1 ½ cups + 2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips or chunks
- 1 cup very cold heavy cream (take it out of the fridge right before using it)
- 2 tbsp. butter, melted and cooled
- Preheat your oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a large bowl, sift together your dry ingredients – the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the chocolate chips and combine. Add the cold cream to the dry mixture, mixing very gently and JUST enough to form a cohesive dough (over-mixing will cause tough scones). Scoop into 6 portions on the baking sheet and brush with melted butter.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, until the top of the scones are lightly browned and a little crispy. Enjoy warm!
- Scones are best eaten the same day, as they get a little soggy on day 2.
