Fresh Blueberry Smoothie & Asparagus | www.mybaconwrappedlife.com

A fresh blueberry-peach smoothie and a giant bundle of asparagus from the farmers market

First things first: I had the best time at the Green City Farmers Market’s first outdoor weekend of the year. Brad was busy Saturday morning, so I had a “me” morning of strolling the farmers market leisurely, sampling everything, and watching adorable dogs and babies run around everywhere. Take-home spoils included: a fresh peach and blueberry smoothie made by a girl on a bike (seriously), a rhubarb spelt scone, an enormous bundle of asparagus, and an embarrassing amount of samples of Wisconsin cheese curds. I love the Midwest! I’m going to try to make it to the farmers market much more this year + hopefully share the seasonal goodness with you all on the blog! (Side note: why is every single person at farmers markets wearing gym clothes? There is NO WAY you ALL already worked out by 9am! Right…right?????)

Number one must-make this week: these saucy pulled pork sandwiches. I can’t wait to whip these up this summer and top them with our favorite artisan spicy pickles. Heaven!

New favorite place to lunch in the Loop: Saucy Porka. They have a selection of “bacos” (BAO TACOS) as well as a number of other Asian-Latin fusion items. Seriously delicious. I had the tostones (fried plantains), the miso braised short rib baco, and the thai chicken curry baco. Everything was delicious, but I could eat the miso braised short rib baco in particular all day every day. Hit it up if you’re in Chicago!

Also, these bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast totchos (a.k.a. tater tot nachos). First bacos, now totchos – apparently I am into crazy hybrid foods this week. But how amazing do these look??

This Saturday I made Ina Garten’s bolognese and her roasted asparagus. As always with Ina’s recipes, they were simple, straightforward, and fabulous. Highly recommend! On a related note, here are 10 things you didn’t know about Ina Garten. She loves Taylor Swift, too?! What! We really need to be best friends.

Finally, I can’t stop salivating over this vegan peanut butter cup pie. Usually I see the word vegan and immediately am not interested, but this looks so incredible I might have to give it a try! It looks so silky, rich, and creamy – what’s not to like?

I hope you liked this week’s foodie favorites! Please feel free to share what you’ve been cooking, eating, or eyeballin’ on the Inter-webs!
