I don’t know about you, but we are in the major-hibernation phase of winter. As in, it’s about halfway done – too far in to think snow is charming and pretty, and too soon to start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. February is for gray, mushy snow and weekends of take-out and the couch. Not that there’s anything wrong with that – in fact, I kinda love embracing the cozy vibes. And it certainly doesn’t mean we can’t eat well, amiright?!
That’s where these two faves come in: Tandoor Char House, our #1 favorite delivery Indian food in Chicago, and the service that brings it to us – DoorDash. Have you guys heard of DoorDash? It just started up in Chicago, and after trying the service out, I could not be more excited about it. They deliver meals from your favorite restaurants for a flat fee of $5.99, with no minimum order size. They’re currently in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and a ton of other cities – check out the full list here.
First things first: ordering up. This was the first time I tried DoorDash, and it was overall an awesome experience. Everything is intuitive and the website is super easy to navigate – you just put in your delivery address and scroll through the awesome options available to you. (Chicago friends – options include Big Star, Kuma’s Too, and Mercadito, among other favorites.)
The interface is super clean and easy to use, and you can easily make menu selections and place your order.
My favorite part was that the site allows you to keep track of the progress of your order – no more wondering where the heck your food is! The delivery guy even texted me friendly status updates, so I was super informed about when my food would be there (something that’s clearly very important to me, since I’m usually starving).
OK, onto the food. Tandoor has been one of our Chicago favorites for a long time, so I’m thrilled to finally share some favorite dishes here. We always get the garlic naan, vegetarian samosas, lamb tikka masala, and the Tandoori chicken boti. Plus, everything comes with 900 curries, which is the only way to go.
Tandoor’s naan is so good, guys. I love carbs of every kind, but naan especially has a place in my heart. It’s a lot thicker than some other naans I’ve had, which is always a good thing in my book. The buttery garlic topping is the only way to go, yo.
The vegetable samosas are huge – like, the size of your fist. They’re filled with a lightly spiced, cinnamon-y potato and pea filling, and I think they have to be my favorite thing in the menu. They actually held up really well with delivery, too (I was a little nervous since usually we eat in). They came still very hot, and not at all soggy. Success!
Finally, both the lamb tikka and the Tandoori chicken boti seriously delivered. The lamb tikka was awesome (maybe a little light on the lamb, but the sauce was so good we saved it all week to dip pita in for snacking), and the Tandoori chicken was spicy and very tender. Adding the chutneys to everything is a must, especially if you’re spice-lovahs like we are, and the whole thing was just so good.
While I do love eating at Tandoor (and it’s BYOB!), in the winter especially there’s nothing better than having amazing food delivered to your door. DoorDash and Tandoor is my new favorite lazy-Saturday combo. And besides, it’s always BYOB at home, right?
P.S. If you’d like to try DoorDash, sign up here! Full disclosure: I get a $5 credit for every person I refer, but I promise, it’s a great service and I wouldn’t be telling you to sign up if I didn’t think so!
